History of Solitaire

Solitaire card games originated in Northern Europe during the late 18th century, with the earliest written records from Scandinavia and Germany dating to around 1783. The Klondike variant most people know today became popular during the Klondike Gold Rush of the 1890s, when prospectors played it to pass time. Solitaire reached unprecedented popularity when Microsoft bundled it with Windows 3.0 in 1990 to help users learn drag-and-drop mouse operations. Microsoft Solitaire became the most-played computer game in history, with an estimated 35 million users per month even in 2020. The game was inducted into the World Video Game Hall of Fame in 2019.

Solitaire Tips & Strategies

• 💡Always move Aces and Twos to the foundation immediately, as they never serve a useful purpose on the tableau.
• 💡Prioritize uncovering face-down cards; the more cards you can see, the better decisions you can make.
• 💡Keep columns open for Kings; an empty column is extremely valuable for maneuvering cards and should ideally receive a King.
• 💡Do not automatically move every card to the foundation; sometimes keeping a card on the tableau is more strategically useful.
• 💡When drawing from the stock pile, cycle through the entire pile at least once before making major moves so you know what cards are available.
• 💡Choose which King to place in an empty column wisely; look at which color you need based on the Queens and Jacks already visible.
